Planning - Historic Environment & Townscape

Emma has worked as a heritage and townscape specialist throughout the UK, and with qualifications in both historic building conservation and urban design, she draws her experience from her work in the private sector as well as senior roles in local government and charity.
The key theme of Emma’s work is providing strategic advice to clients on likely heritage and townscape issues to inform value or planning and development strategies. She has particular expertise in identifying heritage assets and associated areas of risk and opportunity, advising clients on major and complex projects involving listed buildings, conservation areas and tall buildings, and preparing responses to planning policy consultations.
Emma also brings expertise on sites where new design, the historic environment and townscape sensitivities converge and require a collaborative approach and specialist negotiation to secure the development brief. Her insight into the development and planning process from the public sector perspective is particularly valuable in securing positive outcomes for clients.
Emma is also interested in the way the built environment and historic buildings can be adapted to meet sustainability aspirations and has contributed to articles and research on this topic, alongside working on projects concerned with the retrofit of historic buildings.
