    Catharine

    Catharine is a built heritage and townscape professional with 25 years’ experience within the heritage sector. She is dual qualified in both heritage management and urban design, and is skilled in providing creative, pragmatic advice on new design and development within the historic environment and in sensitive townscapes. 

    Catharine has experience of working across the UK planning and consenting frameworks, based in Edinburgh, she has over 15 years advising on new development within the Scottish planning system and in the north of England.

    Catharine has particular skills advising on design development within complex urban sites, often with multiple heritage assets (World Heritage Site, conservation areas, listed buildings) and sensitive townscapes, where there may be competing sensitivities, and planning or development outcomes and expectations to be managed.   She is an experienced negotiator, and in providing advocacy and engagement with statutory authorities.

    • Strategic planning or consenting advice on development affecting listed buildings, conservation areas and World Heritage Sites
    • Tall buildings and views policy
    • Townscape and visual analysis, including Environmental Impact Assessment
    • Conservation management planning, including assessments of significance and advising on appropriate change to heritage assets
    • Contextual appraisal and analysis to inform new development in sensitive townscapes and historic urban areas
