LAST MILE LOGISTICS: THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Switch to Black & White

The freight estate is historic and its traditional purpose is moving goods from one location to another, but the world is changing and customers want everything faster.  Whilst the movement of goods is a very topical theme, there are big questions from a sustainability perspective that need to be considered.

As part of our work with Network Rail, we helped to look at his issue from an ESG impact and how they are able to get things to the end user quicker, cheaper and with lower carbon emissions.

PLACEMAKING AND PARTNERSHIPS: THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Switch to Black & White

Why do we use train stations? This is one of the big questions we explored with Network Rail as we look at the strategy to make a station a mixed-use destination in our towns and cities.

We needed to look at stations from a community point of view and how they can support a wider community use, particularly with the change in passenger demand post-COVID. It’s not just what happens inside but, more importantly, within the wider area, and the role of placemaking and partnerships to achieve this is so important.

Watch our latest clip below to learn more about the crucial role of placemaking and partnerships in our train stations.

THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Switch to Black & White

Network Rail as a business is continuously changing, as are the towns and communities their stations sit within. Working with Montagu Evans, this project came from a need to be more strategic in thinking and developing approaches for the here and now, as well as preparing for the future.

Consumer tastes and behaviours have changed post-Covid, along with the shift from the business to the leisure traveller, and we needed to look at what those changes are, what they mean, and what is provided at a station and see how we can make them a more of an integral of town and city centres.

In this video case study, we explore with Network Rail how, with their stations, we can drive initiatives forward and ensure our towns and cities of tomorrow are futureproofed through regeneration, placemaking, movement of goods and sustainability. Watch it below…

Switch to Black & White

After last week’s launch of our ‘Health on the High Street’ roundtable, many key themes emerged, including the role of Town Centres in Healthcare provision.
The challenges faced by the UK’s High Streets present an opportunity for Healthcare services, especially in deprived areas, where community-based care like Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) can use the High Street’s presence to enhance health outcomes. Investment, collaboration and transport also have a crucial role.

In this short video, our expert panellists discuss these topics and answer the question: How do we successfully deliver Healthcare in our Town Centres?

REVITALISING SHEFFIELD CITY CENTRE: A VIDEO CASE STUDY

Switch to Black & White

Working with Sheffield Council for over 9 years, we assisted Sheffield in the delivery of their master plan aiming to revitalise the city centre as part of their Heart of the City II strategy, aimed to drive economic growth back into Sheffield. This involved working with the City’s strategic development manager Queensberry to shape and deliver this vision.

Sheffield city centre had a number of longstanding challenges to restore economic growth and prosperity. After financial studies indicated it wasn’t viable for the private sector to deliver its vision, the Council took the decision to lead a review of what should be done and needed a partner to assist.

Working closely with the council and the new architects, Montagu Evans created a masterplan with a phase-by-phase approach and unique framework that ensured each stage met the correct commercial and planning requirements. This then led to the appointment of Queensberry as development manager. Key business targets were met, from the procurement of the new HSBC headquarters in the heart of the city to the retention of the historic buildings and supporting local independents. The new masterplan has also worked towards the creation of new residential development, leisure facilities, a hotel and a new urban park open to all.

The relationship between Sheffield and Montagu Evans, and Queensberry has been key to delivering the strategy and ensuring it is commercially viable and bringing wider benefits to the city.
