HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: TOWNS OF TOMORROW 2023 LAUNCH EVENT
At the event, we kicked off our yearlong Towns of Tomorrow campaign with a lively and informative discussion that looked at the significant trends impacting our towns and cities of the future.
Head of Town Centres, John Percy, hosted the event, followed by our keynote speaker, Dr Gemma John, who talked through several of today’s challenges, including an ageing population, the future of work, and the future areas of disruption.
Strategic Advisory’s Jasmine Ceccarelli-Drewry then led a fascinating panel debate that looked at the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow. Our expert lineup included Nalin Seneviratne, James Ryman, Alex Russell, Daniel Tristao and Edward Owen.

Welcome to the first episode of our City of Tomorrow podcast series in partnership with the Future of London.
In this episode, Chris Miele chairs this interesting debate with Claire Bennie, Director of Municipal, and Frank Filskow, Partner at Make Architects, on the question of whether tall residential buildings can ever be socially sustainable.
They discuss a range of topics, including Claire’s views on the potential costs, socially and financially, to families living in tall buildings, as well as the potential lack of opportunities for young children growing up in this space. Frank also shares his thoughts on the role they can play where land is scarce and the potential benefits to families living there. There’s also a lively conversation on the sustainability of tall buildings, the embodied carbon involved, and what needs to be considered for the future.
