One of the great thing of working for Montagu Evans is that because all the partners are so approachable, they’re happy to chat through the kind of work they’re involved in. The upside of this is that it means you find out just how broad surveying is, and if you find an area that sounds interesting, you can get the chance to get involved in a project and see if it’s for you.
For example, I’ve been working in valuations for roughly a year now and one slightly off-centre area I’ve managed to get involved in is the creating of public sector business cases alongside Graham Copeland, one of the partners in the professional services team.
Day-to-day, the role involves providing clients with property-related strategic consultancy advice for when they’re seeking to take forward a project. This has given me a great opportunity to liaise with clients, building up strategic and financial cases for a multitude of different businesses which we then have to present in front of government panels such as the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.
One day you can be working on the valuation for relocating an entire car manufacturing plant, the next advising a well-known London museum on the best way of designing and fitting out a new wing…in the world of public sector business cases anything is possible!
