I have been surprised at how social the property industry is, and this is especially true in the agency sector!
A significant part of the job as an agent is getting to know your counterparts. Given the relatively small market, you become familiar with those you are doing deals with. It therefore helps to be on good terms! Regular coffee meetings and agency events are great for this and graduates are encouraged to get out regularly.
The sector provides plenty of opportunities for socialising. Building launches provide agents the opportunity to show off newly refurbished space or a new development. Hardly a week goes by without a breakfast tour or lunch tour of an office suite. You not only get to know what space is on the market, but you find the best places to eat!
The most recent for me was where Montagu Evans hosted a tour of newly refurbished restaurant space in Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street. It was a great turnout and generated a lot of interest, and gave me a chance to catch up with my friends in the market.
Also, the Montagu Evans agency team is growing, and I have had front row seats. The appointment of a new head of office agency has given me experience in learning how to win instructions, and makes things exciting as new opportunities arise all the time to grow the department.
Exciting times ahead!
