Old Brewery and Older Beer

This week at Montagu Evans has found me conducting a heritage assessment at the Ram Brewery site in Wandsworth town.

This is a requirement of the discharge of the conditions, all heritage significant arts of the brewery must be identified and recorded in order to ascertain which elements need to be retained.
The survey which is still ongoing has already turned up some interesting results, such as a beam engine from the mid 1800s, old copper tanks from the late 1800s and eerie signs warning of extra-terrestrial activity (see photo).
This has been a very insightful project to work on as it has shown how planning is intrinsic to not only redevelopment of brown field or mostly disused sites, but the retention of the parts of those sites that are historically significant and otherwise might be lost.
