First off, starting the job at Montagu Evans involved me moving down to London from my native Leeds.
Whilst the thought of both a new job and a new city was daunting, my colleagues at have been incredibly welcoming and full of useful tips about London life. From welcome drinks arranged by the planning department to seeing Micky Flanagan live at the O2 in the company box, the social side of the role has allowed me to get to know colleagues from across the firm and see what London has to offer!
A clear benefit of being a planning graduate at Montagu Evans has been the level of involvement in major projects - right from Day 1. One of my highlights has been getting out of the office to attend meetings with key stakeholders involved in the development of a major shopping centre. Listening to their views first-hand was invaluable, and it gave me a good understanding of how the project will develop in the coming weeks. I’m also working alongside one of the Partners in the planning of a major regeneration project which will be a great one for my APC logbook and CV!
After a non-stop first month, the Planning Partners took the department on the annual away trip – this year the destination was Marseille! After hearing stories of past trips from my colleagues, I was looking forward to the trip as an opportunity to break the ice and see people let their hair down outside of the office. Safe to say, I wasn’t disappointed! After a few drinks on the hotel terrace, myself and my fellow planning graduate witnessed some incredible dance moves from the team as we made our way round the bars in the Old Town. The next day, a few of us explored the city, making the most of the late summer sun before meeting with the team for canapes and welcome speeches.
Since returning to the office, I feel much closer to the rest of the team. The trip was a whirlwind, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s outing!
