After a great introduction to my career in property with my rotation in Retail and Leisure Agency, I have recently moved into my new job in the Business Rates department. Having felt comfortable, moving was a shock to the system! However, it quickly became clear that many of the skills I had gained are just as applicable to the new job, and I already feel settled just two weeks in.
I’ve already been involved in a number of inspections varying from cookery schools to music studios as well as more traditional office and retail properties. I’ve also already started liaising with the Valuation Office on behalf of our clients – a crucial part of the job. It’s a busy period for the department and for the rating sector as a whole with upcoming revaluations, so the learning curve has been pretty steep.
I’m also looking forward to a number of extra-curricular experiences I have planned over the summer, and I intend to make good use of the Rating department’s penthouse roof terrace as the evenings get warmer and longer.
