This week I’m focusing my blog on the planning department’s weekend away to Berlin which was organised because the department are having a successful year and as part of our Christmas celebrations. Chloe and I had only been apart of the company for quarter of that year however we were both invited along.
The trip started with some chaos as a line closure of the S-Bahn meant that many of us found ourselves stuck in a Berlin suburb before we finally resorted to getting taxis. Overall the trip was superb with a fantastic Christmas meal held at the Brauhaus Georgbræu, located adjacent to the River Spree. This micro-brewery was the venue for some traditional German food and beer and we indulged in lots of steins, schnitzel, salted pork and sauerkraut was consumed before we hit the bars of Alexanderplatz.
There was also the chance to explore and visit this unique and interesting city. There is a lot of development activity and the post-wall transformation of some of the areas in Eastern Berlin was extraordinary to see, especially Postdamer Platz.
Overall, the weekend was extremely enjoyable and a brilliant way of socialising with colleagues outside of the work environment. It was great to see that the majority of the department were able to attend the weekend as it was also a chance to spend time with colleagues who I may not have worked with yet.
