A totally different day at work without being in the office. Our client, the Partner in my team and I jumped on our bikes to tour the new developments in the City of London. Our client, The Co-operative food group are looking to acquire new stores in the City of London, preferably the ground floor retail space of new office developments in high foot fall locations. After doing extensive research on these developments we took to the road with maps and helmets in hand to view the sites.
Getting round the City on push bikes is by far the easiest way to view these sites; popping in and out of tube stations you would lose perspective of how pedestrians move around the City; whilst in a car you can’t stop on every street corner and on foot it would be hard to cover the 15 miles we travelled.
Since returning to the office we have put together a schedule of all the sites we visited. Further research has been conducted including searching planning application, VOA searches and most importantly talking to the retail agents who are acting on behalf of the landlords of the buildings.
It was a great site visit and shows that you can’t be a retail agent simply by sitting behind a desk. I also think it could win an award for the most environmentally friendly site visit!
