I returned from a well earned Christmas break and plunged straight back into work. The pre-Christmas busy period has continued through into January and the Firm's other departments are also buzzing with activity.
As well as writing advice notes and reports, the first couple of weeks in January also involved accompanying senior members of the team to a number of site investigations and meetings. The site visits helped in gaining a first hand understanding of sites, their opportunities and constraints. Attending these meetings is also an extremely useful exercise because you are able to meet the project teams involved – the client, architects and other consultants who all come together to discuss planning and design issues. Meeting other professionals and making contacts is important for a graduate planner and it will definitely help further on in my career.
I also attended my first public exhibition as a planning consultant for a residential redevelopment scheme in Knightsbridge. The event took place in the Millennium Hotel and it was a good chance to gauge the views of local residents and associations on the initial design ideas.
