A month as a Graduate Retail Agent

My first placement in the retail agency team has been nothing short of brilliant. I’ve been under the watchful eye of Rob Asbury, Tom Raban, Nick Goodman and Rob Lawson and really thrown into the retail agency role.. in a good way!

Following the 2 weeks of programme training to get us grads up to speed on the latest systems my working day has been busy, varied and interesting.  My first day started with a viewing at the Walbrook building on Canon Street with a potential tenant. Following this, I have cycled to target locations in London in search for suitable destinations for the expansion of The Co-Op’s operating portfolio. A detailed report is now being built to present to our client, outlining all findings and suggestions. The team have slotted me into client meetings with St George, The Co-Op and Cook and Garcia, with another graduate taking on Five Guys and Bunny Chow objectives. I have been able to offer genuine advice to these clients on their requirements. I am essentially the direct contact for any information regarding St George’s Sites of St George Wharf, Battersea Reach and Fulham Reach and have performed multiple viewings at these three local hot spots with many parties interested in the space. More recently, I have been involved in the relocation of tenants from a potential development site in central London. This task requires the application of GOAD, EGi and Focus, along with a large magnitude of phone calls to agents in the area to find the tenants new space to move into and allow a development to go forward.

I am enjoying the perks of the job too. Every first Friday of each month offers a Retail meet, held recently in Strawberry Moons.. A must event for retail graduates to network and gain an understanding of the market. Internally, we’ve also been thrown into some rewarding graduate welcoming drinks. Finally, I participated in the LandAid Tower-Athlon charity event, as part of a team of three, where I abseiled off the summit of Broadgate Tower (see news item ‘LandAid’s 2014 TowerAthlon Challenge posted Friday, September 19, 2014).
